Has anybody been watching Steve Cohen's race against challenger Nikki Tinker? That is one nasty, bitter slugfest. Tinker made Olbermann's "Worst Person in the World" last night for her antisemitic TV spot.

A real, honest-to-God nashville recording studio -- Dualtone, the same outfit that's releasing the Redstate UPdate CD -- is redoing John's CD and releasing it this summer. Here's a promo they've put on Youtube. I really, really like it. You'll see some familiar faces here, and one that might surprise you.

Didn't see the first part of it, but tuned in just in time to see an angry, red-faced Ownings saying he's tired of seeing county employees abused and urging Salter (and, presumably anyone else who has been aggrieved) to get an outside lawyer and sue commissioners who falsely accuse them of wrongdoing.

This is regarding the mulch operation.

I woke up this mornng with a hankering to get dressed up and go downtown to see a movie tonight, so I look at the paper to see what's playing.
Blech!
I have a choice between:
Hancock
or
Wanted
or
Wall-E
or
Get Smart
or
Love Guru
or
Incredible Hulk
or
Kung Fu Panda
or
Indiana Jones: The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Before this theater opened, I did some reading, and discovered that films that get the widest distribution and make the most dough are made for 16-year-old boys. Seems pretty spot-on.
Damn.

Here are two places I found out about this weekend that sound really good -- they're sort of at opposite ends of the spectrum:

This one was featured on (and recommended by) The Splendid Table Sunday. Interesting organic food place where people just pay what they choose.

You can spend the dough that you save by eating at So All May Eat at the Broadmoor's killer Sunday brunch.
Wish I were there.

So I'm sipping my coffee and minding my own bidness this morning, reading my e-mail and listening to classical music out on my back deck. It's sunny and a light breeze is wafting the fragrance of my Casablanca lily across the yard. Then I come upon this mass-forwarded email from somebody named Lowdog:

I quit being idealistic about politics about 30 years ago, so I'm glad to see that Obama is a street fighter. Yet again I say -- Obambi?
Not hardly.

Again, I'm glad. Job One is getting elected, and the stakes are too damn high to fail.

I cannot understand, for the life of me, why the NS deems it necessary to allow comments on this kind of story. David Keim's warning to the commenters (if that's a word) reads more like a disclaimer than an admonition. The "personality" of that messageboard is well established, and allowing comments is simply an invitation to that assembly of anonymous neurotics to launch their usual brand of personal attacks on this couple.

Tim and Allison can take care of themselves, but I've gotten to know Tim's mom and dad over the years -- Joyce is a retired math teacher from Knoxville College and Charlie is decorated combat WWII vet who was known as the students' friend when he was dean of students at UT. They are elderly and frail, and they don't deserve to have a happy occasion slimed.

'Obambi' may be the most inaccurate political nickname of all time. This is one tough mofo. I love the way the Repubs are whining about gun control in response to this.

OK, so I'll admit I'm in a foul mood today, and it goes back to the Roshomon-esque experience of seeing uncritical praise for Hillary's speech here last night. That speech made me want to run my fist through the wall.

I really wanted to get back to liking her and Bill, and I'd hoped she'd give me reason to do so. But it was just another stump speech -- a really good stump speech, but as a stump speech, it was wildly out of place and full of stuff that just wasn't true, from the introduction as the "Next President of the United States" to the familiar "Most votes ever" Blahblah to the "Won the popular vote" Blahblah to the "Won South Dakota, the last primary*" Blahblah.

She needed to do something to start binding up the wounds, and except for the "I like Barack" disclaimer at the beginning, she just didn't.

Hilary Rosen, a staunch Clinton supporter who has taken a lot of bullets for HRC on CNN said it extremely well (although I don't think it's fair to credit Bill and Hillary's civil rights work for Obama's success).

I've noticed lately that I'm getting a bunch of e-mails trying to sell me things to clean out my colon, complete with disgusting color photos of what appear to be 5-foot turds. They're peddling yogurts with "fiber" in them, too. Who wants laxative in their yogurt?

But today's e-mail took the cake, so to speak.

Sean Braisted has a moving tribute to MLK:

I was at the Roman Room when I heard the news that Martin Luther King had been shot. I was eight months pregnant with Rachael (I know, sounds bad, being in a smoke-filled barroom when I was that pregnant), and Ruby, the waitress (she wouldn't have called herself a server) announced "They've shot Martin Luther King!"

This moment left a scar on my heart that I carry to this day, and will to the grave.

And the frat boys at the table next to us started cheering. I thought I was going to pass out. Seriously. I couldn't catch my breath. They were calling him Martin Luther Coon, and having a big time. My husband, Joe, was trying to get me to calm down, but soon as I could, I stood up and started cussing them.

Joe, who was afraid I was going to go into labor, cajoled, pleaded, dragged me out of the place, finally. I cannot recall being angrier, sadder or more outraged at anything, ever in my life.

Rachael was born in May, and Joe, who had just finished college and gotten drafted, was shipped overseas and didn't get to see her until she was two months old. By December, he was dead. Our son, Joey, was born the following July.

(With apologies to my daughter for giving away her age)

Have you seen a story about Dawn Coppock's bill in the NS, except a recent brief saying that the AG has opined that it's not constitutional?
No
You've seen it in Metro Pulse and in the Shopper. The Sentinel has ignored Coppock's efforts, despite the fact that she is a Knoxvillian, and the church that is supporting her efforts is in Knoxville.

Limbaugh wants the Democratic race to continue.

(CNN) – As Hillary Clinton battles to keep her presidential bid alive, she may be getting help from an unlikely source: conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh.

Limbaugh has been actively urging his Texas listeners to cross over and vote for Clinton in that state's open primary Tuesday, arguing it helps the Republicans if the Democratic race remains unsettled for weeks to come.

"I want Hillary to stay in this…this is too good a soap opera," Limbaugh told fellow conservative talk-show host Laura Ingraham on Fox News Friday. He reiterated the comments on his Monday show and replayed the exchange with Ingram.

He also said Clinton is more willing than the Republican National Committee and John McCain's campaign to criticize Barack Obama.

"We need Barack Obama bloodied up politically....
