Speakers for the GOP convention have been announced. Interesting. Pawlenty, Crist, are announced for Thurs nite. VP nominee speaks Wed nite. Romney speaks before the VP slot. Who does that leave?

Let's see--
Republicans are skeered of nominating Pawlenty, who is unknown outside his state and probably wouldn't stand up well to Biden.
Romney? Not only is there a barrel full of video of him trashing McCain, but there's just as much of McCain ridiculing him. The "I'm a Hillary supporter ad for McCain" would be instantly obsolete and laughable.
Crist? Wellllll, I'm reading that wingers are beside themselves at the notion of pro-choice Tom Ridge, so what the heck would they say about Closet Case Charlie? Link...
They're sweating this one -- evidenced by the fact that Colin Powell's name is being floated. That's a real joke. Powell's more likely to campaign for Obama than McCain. Condi Rice has made it plain that she's not interested, which is wise on her part, considering her role in Bush's disastrous foreign policy. Jindel doesn't want it either, but he might be the most viable of the bunch.

So what if McCain doesn't get along with Romney. He's a good choice. History is full of Presidents who didn't care much for their VPs.
Really, Huckabee is awful. I don't think he's going to bring much to the ticket. All they're going to have to say in a hushed whisper is 'angry black woman', 'infanticide' and throw up that idiot pastor of Obama's a few more thousand times and I think the right will show up at the polls.

I wasn't saying those were great and wonderful campaign tactics, it's just what I think the McCain camp will do. They need something to motivate the right. McCain won't do it. Reagan's re-animated corpse would be nice, but
I'm thinking a dirty campaign will be required if they decide they need the hard right.
I guess to get McCain votes I would have to vote for him. I will not be doing so. I don't need to. Obama will lose Tn.
Don't try to engage me if you're going to throw the mean spirited, wounded, etc lingo around. A good political discussion will naturally aggravate and annoy and, honestly, most of them get mean spirited.

Republicans have nothing to run on other than negative tactics. They don't have solutions to any of America's problems. In fact, they have a decade of spectacular failures and no new ideas. They have no credibility on foreign policy, spending or economic strength, and those are their best suits.
Racism and infanticide are the cornerstones of the Republican Party. Their convention will probably be all about why it is wrong to kill half-black babies because they might grow up to Marxist Presidential candidates the GOP can piss on.

I predict that McCain will nominate Sarah Palin of Alaska, long rumored to be one of his top choices.
Selecting Palin and running with a pro-drilling theme might be the tactic.
Americans are upset with idiocy of corn ethanol and the rise of both gasoline and food prices. This may be the simplest theme in many years, "It's the economy stupid". The fatigue over the Global Warming con job ties in nicely to this meme. The Dem's need some killer hurricanes. 2008 isn't cooperating for Al Gores scheme.
Obama and Biden would fare poorly on a pocketbook issue theme.
I'll let the 'killer hurricanes' item pass as it is beneath contempt.
Palin would be an interesting pick, but McCain would instantly lose the "Inexperience" ploy when Biden beats her like a trick chimp during the debate. I guess they could play the "Look at the mean old white man picking on the girl" line, but Palin wouldn't stand for that. She's also got to be careful as she comes from the most politically corrupt state in the US and has people there who don't like her (despite her electoral success). She'd better be well distanced from Ted Stevens and that evil fucker Murkowski.

There's a lot of speculation here in the Lone Star State that Kay Hutchison might be McCain's choice too. I guess we will find out in a couple of days.
Fine with me. She may be female, but she's 65, and just reinforces "the ticket is old and out of touch" theme.
I didn't think Obama had any perfect choices. I don't think McCain even has any GOOD ones, except for maybe Condi Rice. She scares me. She has, however, indicated in the past she's not interested.
I guess we'll find out Friday; isn't that when he's supposed to announce?
P.P.S. What about Ridge - is he speaking? Going to a pro-choice guy would piss off the base no end, but they're awfully good buds.
One final note - speaker assignments can always be changed.

That really doesn't play to the under 65 crowd these days, or for that matter anyone who is not strangely angry at the Universe for past slights. Mention 'The Struggle' to them and they're going to think you're talking about contestants on American Idol.

You seem to think James' opinion is awfully definitive. Perhaps that's all you've got to go on. I wouldn't write her out until she's actually out, though.
Best I can tell, Nobama is the only one bringing up his race and trying to make an issue out of it. Nevertheless, I do expect to be called a racist repeatedly between now and November for not supporting the black fella.

Jindal is also a scheduled speaker. That leaves Lieberman and Huckabee...
Oooh! I like either of those two for McSame.
Huckabee will scare away the swing voters, and Leiberman will keep the Rebup base at home!

McCain's got some pretty piss-poor options.
Huckabee'd probably be his best bet -- at least it would make the right-wing fundieshappy.
It'd be pandering, but I think you are right.
My guess was Eric Cantor. Is he scheduled to speak?

Is Bush the Elder (as opposed to Bush the Lesser) scheduled to speak?
He's only served one term as President, so he could be VP...
Naw, McCain needs somebody to help him beat back this image, not reinforce it.

It's Mitt Romney.
Hes' by far the best prepared to take over the job if McCain dies or becomes incapacitated. Isn't that supposed to be the #1 consideration?
