Are you ready? A Presidential debate set for Friday

Submitted by bizgrrl on Mon, 2008/09/22 - 2:28pm.
When: Fri. September 26, 2008 9:00 PM

The first of three debates by the presidential contenders will be held Friday, September 26, at 9 PM EST.

At Ole Miss! Two debates in the South, the other is in Nashville. Offset, of course by the other debate being held in that liberal bastion, New York State (hmph).

PBS' Jim Lehrer will moderate. The focus of the debate will be foreign policy and national security.

I suppose it is best the debate focusing on domestic and economic policy isn't until mid-October. The events of the past few weeks might bring the nominees to fisticuffs.

Get your beer, wine, $20 scotch, valium or other calming devices ready. It might get crazy (or not).

Ugh. Maybe I'll be awake for half of it.

Awake for half of it?

Ok, you win...Dang!

The question is whether

The question is whether McCain will be awake for half of it...

"On the day of the debate, McCain "will host a town-hall event and take a short nap" while Obama "will work out or shoot hoops."

Political NASCAR

Honestly, at this point the debates are like political NASCAR -- the only reason to watch it is for the crashes. Otherwise, they'll just drive around in the same circles they always drive in, reciting the same talking points.

The only way it will be interesting is if

  • Someone gets a loaded question like Bernard Shaw's "if Kitty Dukakis was raped and murdered" question in 1988
  • Someone gaffes, like Gerald Ford liberating Poland in 1976
